AI Conversation Saving: Why Must Users Personally Choose Important Conversations?

It might seem convenient if AI could analyze all conversations and automatically pick out important content for you.

If AI could judge on your behalf which answers matter, when a task has been wrapped up, and what should be revisited later, the user's workload would decrease.

However, 5BY was not designed to automatically determine all important conversations and reference points.

The reason is simple.

What is important cannot be fully determined from conversation text alone.

The Same Answer Can Mean Different Things to Different People

An answer that looks well-organized to AI might not be particularly important to the user.

Conversely, a short and seemingly ordinary sentence could change the direction of a user's project or become the criterion for a long-pondered problem.

For example, consider the following situations.

These meanings are difficult to fully grasp by analyzing conversation content alone.

Importance is determined not by sentence length or information volume, but by the user's purpose and situation in viewing that conversation.

Anchor Is a Reference Point Created by the User

Anchor is not simply a conversation-saving feature.

It is something the user personally creates when, during a conversation, they want to capture the thoughts and context formed so far as a single reference point.

By creating an Anchor, the user is effectively making the following judgment.

The flow up to this point is worth continuing later.

Anchor becomes a starting point that can be used when continuing previous work in a new conversation window or with a different AI.

The key point is that AI does not arbitrarily designate a midpoint in the conversation as a reference point; rather, the user personally selects a reference point with an understanding of their own workflow.

Saved Is a Specific Conversation the User Deems Important

Saved serves a different role from Anchor.

While Anchor is a reference point for continuing the overall context formed so far, Saved is a feature where the user personally selects and preserves specific questions and answers they want to revisit.

Users can select the following types of conversations as Saved.

Even when reading the same conversation, what to save may differ from user to user.

5BY does not replace this choice with an AI-generated importance score.

As Automated Judgments Increase, Users Follow AI's Criteria

If AI repeatedly surfaces only the content it classified as important, users may gradually follow AI's judgment criteria.

In this process, content the user actually considered important may be pushed aside, leaving only what was easy for AI to understand.

Automated judgment is convenient but not always neutral.

AI makes judgments based on input sentences and patterns. But it cannot fully know what experiences the user has had, what decisions they are facing, or what meaning that sentence will hold in the future.

That is why 5BY assists with organizing and connecting, but leaves the authority for final importance and reference points to the user.

The User's Choices Become a Record of Their Thinking

When users personally select Anchors and Saveds, it is not just conversation content that remains.

What the user considered important at that moment is also revealed.

Looking back after time has passed, the following can be confirmed.

If only results remain, it is difficult to understand the past process of choosing.

But when Anchors and Saveds created by the user remain, you can revisit what criteria your past self used to think and decide.

What 5BY Automates and What It Does Not

5BY does not require users to manually organize every conversation.

It helps organize the context and connections of conversations and allows exploring the flow in Graph View.

However, it does not automatically make the following final judgments.

These judgments belong to the user's purpose and experience.

The principle 5BY upholds is not to eliminate AI's judgment, but to ensure that AI does not replace the user's authority to judge.

What Matters Is Not Storing More

Saving every conversation does not mean you will remember important thoughts better.

Rather, as records accumulate, it can become harder to find what was important.

Instead of piling everything up with equal weight, 5BY is designed to leave coordinates that allow users to return through personally selected reference points and important conversations.

Anchor is a reference point for continuing later, and Saved is an important conversation the user personally selected.

And the agent of that choice is not AI, but the user.

5BY helps users work with AI longer and more deeply while maintaining control over their own thoughts and decisions.
